Simmered Meat and Potatoes

SIMMERED MEAT AND POTATOES (NIKUJAGA)

Served 4 50 min. 224kcal

1/4 lb. Beef (round), sliced thin
3 potatoes (jagaimo)
1 onion (tamanegi)
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Soy sauce
1 tsp. Salt
1 cup water
1/3 cup green peas

1. Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces.
2. Peel the potatoes and cut them into fourths
3. Cut the onion into eighths.
4. Heat oil in a soup pot and fry the beef, onion and potatoes.
5. To (4), add the water and then the sugar, soy sauce and salt.
Bring to a boil and skim the fat.
6. Reduce heat and simmer 20 to 25 minutes, till tender.
7. Sprinkle with green peas just before serving.
