Ennichi is a day of special meaning, such as the Jobustu or Kotan* of a divinity to which a temple or shrine is dedicated. Memorial services and festivals for the divinity are held every month. On those days, many street stalls are set up and crowds of people attend.

* Jobustu is the day the divinity left this world, went to heaven and then became Buddha. Kotan is the day a divinity or saint was born.
